Maina-Curtorim police outpost in firing line at gram sabha

MARGAO: The Maina-Curtorim police out post located in Guirdolim was in the firing line at the gram sabha yesterday.

The locals including Deputy Sarpanch Franky Rodrigues gave examples of the umpteen visits they made to the outpost but their complaints were not inwarded or looked into and they were asked to go to the police station at Manora instead.

The gram sabha resolved that the Home Department be asked to ensure that the police outpost gets the required personnel and equipment to function properly.

When the villagers were told that a letter had already been sent to the authorities, they warned that they would demand for the outpost to be closed as it does not serve any purpose.

It was also resolved that the police be asked to expedite the tenant verification exercise in the village and the landlords who rent their premises to migrant labourers be spoken to as well.

Other major issues that were discussed were over the erratic streetlights in some wards, sorting out the issues with CCTV surveillance, the performance of the various village level committees as well as the panchayat body.

There was also a divided opinion regarding a recent issue that has cropped up wherein a road next to the Church is being sought to be closed while on the other hand, some locals are objecting to this closure and want it open.

Given the road leads to a place where anti-social activity takes place at night, some suggested that security personnel be brought there and CCTV facilities be installed.

Locals who were objecting to the panchayat’s decision to issue a stop work order for the road closure were also asked to challenge the same legally.
