Maina-Curtorim Police seize tobacco products worth Rs 24 lakh

MARGAO: Maina-Curtorim Police on Tuesday conducted raids in the premises of Goa Industrial Development Corporation Phase II at Nessai and recovered illegally stored contraband tobacco and pan masala products worth Rs 24 lakh.

Police have arrested two persons in connection with the case. According to police, the raid was conducted around 2 pm on Tuesday and it continued till 6 pm and after verifications, an offence was registered.

Police have arrested two persons at the premises, where the tobacco and pan masala products were stored. They have also seized a vehicle.

Police disclosed the names of alleged accused persons involved in offence as Sanju Gouder (31), resident of Rumdamol; Dinesh Godbole (22) of Ramnagri-Mugali, both workers and owner of premises Vaman Falari (56), of Gurukrupa APT, opposite Child Care School, Malbhat-Margao.

Police said that contraband was stored at the premises owned by Falari.

Maina-Curtorim Police Station Police Sub-Inspector Deepesh Shetkar is the complainant in the case.

Police have registered an offence Under Section 87 (F) of Goa Daman and Diu Public Health Act 1985 and Goa Public Health Act (amendment) 2005 read with 34 IPC. Police said that the owner will be arrested.

Further investigation is in progress.
