PANJIM: The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation will take up works for beautification of the capital along with others but only after the monsoons, a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has decided.
According to sources, probably after the heat the Corporation faced over execution of certain projects, GSIDC has been asked to take all stakeholders into confidence before finalizing them.
The GSIDC which functions directly under the chief minister has a huge list of some 125 works that are on the agenda. However, new tenders are only likely to be announced after the ongoing works are completed, which may take another two months.
Confirming that the review meeting did take place, deputy chair, Sankhali MLA Pramod Sawant said the meeting which lasted almost the entire day, reviewed all ongoing works.
“All ongoing works were reviewed during the meeting. It was also decided that no new projects would be taken up at least for the next three months,” Sawant said.
Almost 25 works were reviewed at the meeting, sources informed, adding that the chief minister himself went to some sites like the Miramar-Dona Paula cement road, to check ongoing works.
According to plans, the capital is likely to undergo a sea change. The Miramar-Dona Paula road itself will have a cycling track, walking paths, etc.
Panjim already has a plan prepared by foreign consultants and the development works are likely to proceed along these lines.
Land acquisition for the third phase of the Panjim market is also proposed to be initiated. Also the Corporation is moving to acquire land, wherever required, for bridges connecting Rachol to Shiroda, Tuem to Camurlim, Keri to Tiracol, Amona to Virdi and Betim to Panjim.
At present the Corporation is completing roof repair works of nearly 800 schools. These schools have been identified by the Education Department as needing both minor and major repairs. The total cost is estimated to be Rs 24 crore. The GSIDC is planning to execute the works through six packages comprising two talukas each. An estimated Rs 4 crore is being allocated for each package, Sawant said.
Each package comprises two talukas namely, Valpoi-Bicholim, Bardez-Pernem, Tiswadi-Ponda, Sanguem-Dharbandora, Canacona-Quepem and Mormugao-Salcete.
The Corporation is also working on construction of grade separators outside Dabolim airport. The grade separators will eliminate the intersection on National Highway 17-B which is presently causing enormous problems near the Dabolim airport.
