MAJOR FIRE AT HERALD PRINTING PRESS

HUGE LOSSES ESTIMATED; NO CASUALTIES REPORTED

VASCO: A major fire broke out at Herald Printing Press located at the Verna industrial estate on Thursday evening. Huge losses estimated. No casualties were reported. According to preliminary information, the blaze started at around 7 pm. It is believed that the fire was due to a short circuit. Several paper rolls, and a few machines were gutted. Sources claim that the moment staff noticed the fire, they tried to douse the flames but the blaze spread throughout a section of the printing press. The Fire and Emergency Services Department was alerted about the incident and several fire tenders including five tenders from Panjim Headquarters and tenders from Vasco, Verna, Margao, Quepem were rushed to the spot. The managing director of Herald Publication, Raul Fernandes, said, “Herald belongs to the people and the maangement will ensure that the paper reaches out to the people on a daily basis. We are coming out with the edition tonight. However, there will be a slight compromise with the number of pages and the quality just for a day, but from Saturday onwards, we will come back with full strength”.
