An entire hillock at Nauta, Cortalim was in flames after a major fire broke out on Tuesday morning. The fire broke out on the hillock above the church street and spread across the hill. With no proper access to the site, due to the slope and large trees, The fire personnel managed to bring the fire under control after trying their best late on Tuesday night but the fire is yet to be extinguished.
The fire personnel requested assistance from the Navy and the forest dept. who arrived on-site on Wednesday morning, due to the current ongoing fires in the State. The forest officials have started a probe to find out the reason behind the fire incident. Locals of Cortalim tried to make an accessway through the forest area for the fire brigade to douse the fire on the hillock. Navy helicopters are in operation.
