A major fire broke out at a residence near the church in Ribandar on Sunday afternoon, destroying a garage and part of the kitchen on the ground floor.
The blaze, reported around 3:46 pm, caused extensive damage before being brought under control by the fire services. According to Rohidas Parab, Officer-in-Charge of the Old Goa Fire Station, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

“We received a call about a fire in a house near the church. The flames had engulfed the kitchen and garage area,” Parab said.
The fire gutted several household items, including a refrigerator, washing machine, floor and ceiling fans. In the garage, two cars, two Activa scooters, and two bicycles were completely destroyed.
Due to the intensity of the blaze, additional fire tenders were called from Old Goa, Panjim, and Ponda. Firefighting efforts were led by Amit Rivankar, Balakrishna Shet, Laxmikant Salgaonkar, Rohidas Parab, Paresh Gauns, Vinayak Ugvekar, and Pritam Kalangutkar.
No injuries were reported, but the property loss is substantial. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
