PANJIM: IAS officers Parimal Rai and Pawan Kumar Sain, considered to be supporters of Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, were relieved of duty with immediate effect and transferred to New Delhi. They will most likely be posted in the Defence Ministry.
Both officers were relieved in a late-night order issued by the Goa government. A major reshuffle of departments to the secretaries was also made. The Under-Secretary to the Government of India A K Das had on November 14, 2014 ordered the transfer of the duo.
Rai, an IAS officer of the 1985 batch, held key departments like the Public Works Department, Town and Country Planning, Industries and Transport in Goa. These departments have now been handed over to IAS officer Arun Goyal, principal secretary. Goyal is also been given additional charge of the Civil Aviation Department, which was with Sain.
Sain, an IAS officer of the 2005 batch, was principal secretary of Mines, Civil Aviation, Institute of Public Assistance and Information and Publicity. The crucial mines portfolio has been handed over to Chief Secretary R K Srivastava, who is also holds the environment and home portfolios.
Meanwhile, Srivastava’s departments – Law, NRI Affairs and Home – have been handed over to IAS officer Prashant Goyal. Virendra Kumar has taken over the Education department from P Dwivedi. He was also given the charge of social welfare from Manoj Sahoo.
The order does not mention any other major changes.
