CANACONA: The alertness on the part of a KTC bus driver averted a major tragedy along the treacherous Karmal Ghat on Monday.
According to sources, a KTC bus which was proceeding from Sanvordem to Karwar suffered brake failure along the treacherous Karmal Ghat. However, the bus driver Shivanand S Naik, composed himself and displayed his presence of mind and started flashing the headlights to make the oncoming motorists aware of the danger and negotiated the ghat section safely.
Over 60 passengers heaved a sigh of relief as Naik drove the bus to the Canacona KTC bus stand safely.
The same bus had developed a similar snag on Sunday and was repaired by the mechanics from Margao depot. A passenger said, “It is dangerous to travel in KTC buses due to lack of maintenance. But we have no other option but to travel in such buses.”
