MARGAO: Villagers of Majorda, Utorda and Calata on Sunday demanded that the jurisdiction of the village panchayat be brought under the Salcete Block Development Office.
At the gram sabha meeting held on Sunday, the villagers pointed out that they are put to great hardships since the panchayat comes under the administrative control of the Mormugao Block Development office.
Gram sabha member Sylvester Vaz pointed out said that villagers are put to great hardships to travel to Vasco only regarding Pancahyat matters before the Mormugao Block Development Office.
Gram sabha members demanded that the matter be immediately brought before the Panchayat Minister, Panchayat Director and the local MLA and get Majorda Panchayat under the Salcete BDO at Margao.
Meanwhile, in another resolution, the gram sabha demanded that the government maintain the Dabolim airport as Goa’s only international airport and domestic airport for the state. The meeting demanded that the government request the defence forces to vacate the naval base from Dabolim in a phased manner.
