PANJIM: The Goa Peoples’ Forum (GPF) on Monday demanded that Goa government freeze music festivals along the beaches if it is unable to stop revellers from taking drugs.
Coordinator Satish Sonak told a press conference that government either strictly enforce law and order or stop such events for the sake of young generation. “You (government) have someone (police) to enforce law and order or stop such parties. You cannot gamble with the future of the younger generations,” he said quoting media reports that Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar claimed that people attending such event do take drugs and they cannot be stopped.
The minister’s statement came few hours after a Chattisgarh-based youth was arrested for possessing drugs inside Sunburn venue on day one of the event last Friday night.
“Music revellers feel that musical parties like Sunburn, cannot be enjoyed without consuming alcohol and drugs. We cannot stop them from enjoying… drugs are freely available all over the world and Goa is not an exception,” was what Parulekar had commented on the sidelines of inaugurating Trade Mart last Saturday.
