PANJIM: The Congress on Sunday demanded that State government make public the letters from Prime Minister’s Office and Mines Ministry that informs the ordinance for resumption of mining operations is not possible and suggested the BJP-led coalition to file a review petition in the Supreme Court against its order quashing renewal of 88 mining leases.
“The PMO and Mines Ministry has conveyed that mining resumption is not feasible as the ordinance is not possible. The PMO has also suggested to the Goa government for filing a review plea in the SC seeking to restart the mining activities. We demand that the government make these letters public,” Congress Goa President Girish Chodankar told a press conference at its party head office in Panjim.
Lamenting that Goa government has failed in its promises to bring relief to the mining dependents; Chodankar has sought Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s resignation. He has also appealed to the aggrieved mining dependents to vote out the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“The BJP has fooled mining dependents and the people of Goa enough. They will once again come back to the citizens seeking votes. It’s high time that our mining dependents show them the door,” he said.
“BJP leaders like AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik, CM Parrikar, who held Defence portfolio at the Centre and the other two Members of Parliament – are sidelined by the Centre. They are not even getting an appointment to meet PM Narendra Modi,” he added.
On Saturday, former union minister Shahnawaz Hussain had informed the State media that Centre was serious on resolving the mining issue.
