PANJIM: With more than 13 per cent of unemployed people in the State, large chunk of which comprises graduates and post graduates, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has appealed to educational institutions to get students industry-ready through various skill-based educational courses.

While addressing one-day national seminar on ‘Getting ready for NAAC accreditation in the light of NEP-2020’, Sawant said that the State government has initiated various convergence efforts across the skill ecosystem to enhance skill level and create skilled workforce.

“Recently, CMIE released a report that 13 per cent of people in Goa are unemployed. Everyone must have read it in the newspaper. Who is responsible for this? Is government alone responsible? Data shows, more than 70 per cent graduates and above including the engineers are unemployed. It is sad to see that despite having so much opportunities in various fields, so many are left unemployed,” Sawant lamented.

He further said, “It is not the just responsibility of the government to fill the skill gap but educational institutions too need to take the lead. Skilled based education is the need of the hour and we need to go according to the demand, if not, unemployment rate will keep on increasing.”
