MARGAO: Will the plan of making the road from Holy Spirit Church to Old Collectorate in the Margao town into a one-way work for good? The survey of traffic flow requested by the Margao municipality to the Traffic Cell may have the answer. However, the execution of the one-way plan may not be as easy as it seems in the saturated Margao town.
The traffic situation in Margao has increased to such an extent that the MMC had to write to the Margao traffic cell to study the traffic flow and accordingly convert the road from Holy Spirit Church to Old Collectorate road into one-way for vehicles. The chaotic traffic scenes here are common every day.
Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik said, “One day, I was caught up in the traffic on the Holy Spirit to city road. I was forced to park the vehicle on the roadside and walk to the office. This traffic situation here needs attention.”
An authority commenting on the MMC plan said, “It is going to be impossible to do so. There are too many residential and commercial areas here which may be affected due to this one-way push.”
The Traffic Cell Police Inspector Mohan Gaude said that they have received the request to study the traffic flow and would undertake the study soon.
On installing traffic signals in Margao and surrounding areas, he said, “We have already given suggestion for having traffic signal at 12 locations in Margao which include main intersections in the town, powerhouse junction and some more.”
Authorities have however maintained that once the Eastern and Western Bypass are completed and connected over 50% of the problem of Margao town will be solved. The Ring road too if connected completely would ease the remaining problem. However, all these works have seemed to have slowed down.
