PANJIM: The new bridge connecting Mala to Patto across Ourem creek will be made two-way from Monday.
Speaking to the media, Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) councillor Milind D’Cruz said the Collector has approved the opening of the bridge for light motor vehicles both ways. “The Collector has approved to open the Mala-Patto bridge for two-way traffic. From Monday, 22nd January the bridge will open for two-way traffic,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the BJP slammed Congress Secretary Girish Chodankar for his comments over the Mala-Patto bridge and submitting a memorandum for 10 hours of water supply in the capital.
Party spokesperson Dattaprasad Naik said “The BJP government is fully aware of the needs of the people of Panjim and is taking several steps for the development of the city.”
He said that Chodankar is trying to misguide the people of Panjim by raising the issue of water shortage which is actually non-existent. “Most of the parts of Panjim enjoy proper water supply. Water shortage faced by houses behind Post Office, Tonca area is being solved by laying new pipelines. In some other parts of Panjim replacement of old pipelines is in progress,” Naik added.
On Ribandar he said, “Steps are being taken to improve water supply in Ribandar. Moreover, many colonies in Panjim enjoy 24 hour water supply as they have facility of storage tanks. The 27 MLD plant at Opa is likely to be commissioned in the next six months and will solve the problem of water supply of entire city and surrounding areas.”
