‘Malabar Tree Nymph’ declared State Butterfly of Goa

PANJIM: The ‘Malabar Tree Nymph’ was declared the State Butterfly of Goa on Thursday.  

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant announced the name of the State Butterfly at the inaugural function of the Bird Festival of Goa organised by Forest Department. A short film on the State Butterfly was screened.

Speaking, Sawant appreciated the Forest Department for organising the Bird Festival in Goa and added that all the participants will get an opportunity to see different species of birds. In all 16 delegates from India and four delegates from abroad are participating in the two-day festival. 

The Chief Minister said that the Goa government is endeavouring to promote all types of tourism to boost the industry. Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, Principal Secretary (Finance) Puneet Kumar Goel, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Pankaj Asthanan and others were also present.   

Later, the Chief Minister felicitated Goa Bird Conservation Network treasurer (GBCN) Mandar Bhagat.
