Malbhat residents assured of action against scrap yard

MARGAO: Malbhat witnessed uproar for the second day today over an illegal scrap yard, even as deputy collector Sangeeta Naik assured the agitating residents that the process to shut the scrap yard is underway before the Salcete Mamlatdar.

After inspecting the area, where she found burning scrap material in the railway property, the deputy Collector said she would move a note to the district collector to write to the railways to crack a whip against the illegal scrap yard activities in their property.
Residents of Malbhat demanded action against the illegal scrap yard for the second day today as they complained of burning of scrap in the residential locality. They pointed out that the scrap yard owner started burning the waste at around 3 am on Tuesday and also lifted away part of the scrap material to avoid action.
Members of the Fourth Estate also demanded action against the scrap yard employees, who threatened a photo journalists.
