PANJIM: Fishermen members from Mallim jetty have complained that some of the fishermen from Goa are still using the LED lights for fishing deep despite the ban by Union government.
Speaking to Herald the members of Mandovi Fisheries Cooperative Society informed that the some of the fishermen are still using the LED light for fishing in the deep seas leaving an impact on entire fishing trade in the State.
The members spoke to Herald on condition that their names be not revealed, lest their fuel subsidies and other facilities are blocked.
A member informed that a formal complaint would be filed before the fisheries department on December 26 while oral complaint has been conveyed to the deputy superintendent of fisheries.
“We want the government to step in immediately to stop this nuisance which is against the interest of the traditional fishermen,” a member said.
The members said that the evidence including photographs and video clip would be submitted to the Fisheries department.
It may be recalled that the Union Government last month by a notification banned bull trawling and LED lights on mechanised fishing vessels including motorised fishing crafts.
