MARGAO: Fatorda BJP on Tuesday admitted 16 new members including aspiring councillor, former councillors and two daughters of former minister and respected Congress leader Luis Alex alias Mama Cardoso.
Incidentally, Mama Cardoso’s son Tito Cardoso, who has been elected to the Margao Municipal Council a number of times and was the vice chairperson in the dissolved council and was a known to be a member of Goa Forward Party.
While Tito was not available for his comments, BJP leader Damodar Naik said, “He may join later on”. When asked about it, while Tito’s sister Viviana Cardoso, who joined BJP on Tuesday along with her sister Anita said it was a personal matter for Tito to answer.
Amongst those who joined the BJP were former councillors Livramenta Barreto and Clara Fernandes whose husband Renzil Mascarenhas, is the BJP sponsored candidate at the municipal elections this time and Vasudev Kunkaikar, who is the BJP sponsored candidate in Ward No 10.
While welcoming them to the party, BJP State President and Rajya Sabha Member Vinay Tendulkar said, “The BJP has done immense work for the ST community in the State and listed out the various works done by the BJP.”
“The present BJP government is in the process of regularising the land where ST has done plantations and houses of ST community constructed without permissions,” he said adding that this process should be completed within the next few months.
ST leader and former MLA Ramesh Tawadkar reminded that it was the BJP government that granted ST status to some communities of Goa and also recalled the long struggle they had to undergo to get their rights.
