PANJIM: Former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro was on Friday appointed as National Vice President of All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) with immediate effect.
Faleiro’s appointment was announced by TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in a release.
“The chairperson of All India Trinamool Congress Mamata Banerjee takes great pride in appointing Luizinho Faleiro as the National Vice President of All India Trinamool Congress with immediate effect,” Banerjee said.
“In a political career spanning over four decades, the former Goa Chief Minister has worked ardently towards the development of people. We have full faith that under his (Faleiro) able guidance, the AITC will reach greater heights and continue the fight to protect every Indian citizen’s democratic rights,” Banerjee said in the release.
Faleiro had quit the Congress and joined TMC on September 29.
Speaking to the media at the party office, Faleiro on Friday thanked Banerjee for appointing him as National Vice President of the party and said he will work hard to bring North-East States under the party’s fold.
“In all humility, I thank Mamata Didi for putting her faith in me and appointing me as the National Vice President of the party. I will try my best to work not only at the State level but also at the national level.”
Faleiro said that for him Trinamool in Goa is a movement, which would continue in the future as well as the people wanted a change.
“We are going to fight the BJP. We are looking at consolidating the TMC. If you want to fight the BJP then the only leader who is capable of fighting and who has proved it, is Mamata Didi. I am sure with people’s blessings and God’s blessings we will be victorious,” Faleiro added.
Meanwhile while reacting to the decision taken by his close aide Doris Texeira to join Trinamool Congress Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said . He said he did not have anything to say about it but acknowledged that she had informed him of her plans to do so. He said he cannot stop anyone from making their individual choices and that one should look at the pros and cons before making any such decision.
Digambar said that until recently she was with them and had also attended the Youth Congress protest. Denying rumours of him joining other party, the former CM said he will remain with Congress only.
