Mamata unwell after lorry hits car in her convoy

KOLKATA, AUG 10 Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee complained of chest pain on Tuesday after she was injured when her car suddenly braked after one of her convoy vehicles was hit by a lorry in an incident which her aide alleged was an attempt on her life.

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee complained of chest pain on Tuesday after she was injured when her car suddenly braked after one of her convoy vehicles was hit by a lorry in an incident which her aide alleged was an attempt on her life.
The West Bengal government and state police said the incident which happened Monday night near Kolaghat bridge, about 70 km from here, while she was returning from her rally at Maoist bastion in Lalgarh was prime facie an accident.
Mamata was not in the car hit by the lorry coming from the opposite direction but her bodyguard was injured. The lorry driver has been arrested.
The TC leader, who was holding onto a handle in the front seat of her car experienced a jerk when her car suddenly braked, has been advised rest by doctors after she complained of chest pain, Banerjee’s additional private secretary told. She will be unable to attend Parliament till further medical advice, he said.
