CUNCOLIM: The TMC made its presence felt in the heartland of Salcete on Sunday evening with a well-attended public meeting organised by Dr Jorson Fernandes, the frontrunner for the TMC ticket and flanked by the rising stars of the TMC from neighbouring areas.
Other TMC leaders like Francisco de Tuem, Adv Clovis Costa, Dr Francisco Almeida, and other leaders were present on the stage.
Locals from Cuncolim and neighbouring areas occupied all the 600 to 700 seats. In addition, many stood all over the ground, on a clear Sunday evening, in a town known for its revolutionary fighters
Dr Jorson said that the TMC may be a new party in Goa but it has shown beyond doubt that it is the only force that can eradicate the BJP in Goa and India. Stating that his supreme leader Mamata Bannerjee was the epitome of female strength he said “The senior-most female of any pack is like a mother who hunts for her flock. Didi has that strength”, he went on to say that it is Didi (West Bengal Chief Minister) who has the strength to hunt out destructive forces. He said “We are eager to give energy to and nourish the two flowers (TMC symbol) and give it strength.”
Moving his attention to Cuncolim, Dr Jorson Fernandes criticised former minister Joaquim Alemao and his son Yuri Alemao. He held Joaquim Alemao responsible for pollution at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate. Dr Jorson assured people that if he got elected, he will close down all the polluting units at IDC on priority. Dr Jorson said Alemao “had looted government in the name of development”
Dr Jorson said that the Trinamool Congress did not come to Goa to divide the votes but to conquer the votes. He called on the people to cast their votes for the development of the constituency and for maintaining the dignity of the electorate.
Manju Shirwant, Irineu Coutinho, Nicolas Fernandez, Francisco de Tuem, Dr. Francisco Almeida, Adv Clovis Costa and many others presented their views.
