PONDA: Acting on the directives of the High Court, the Ponda Mamlatdar took an inventory of the animals at Goa Meat Complex. According to the inventory, there are 132 animals at Goa Meat Complex (GMC).

“Based on our petition, the High Court has temporarily directed to stop slaughtering of animals till the three-member committee appointed submits its report,” Govansh Raksha Abhiyan President Hanumant Parab told Herald.

“There is illegal slaughtering of underage cattle, which is not allowed by law and it’s an offence under Cruelty to Animal Act, Animal Preservation Act,” informed Parab.

“There are various illegalities going on in Goa Meat Complex and even slaughtering of animals is done in the open places, which is against the law,” stated Parab.

“The State government has turned a Nelson’s eye to these illegal activities. Illegal slaughtering is going on unabated in the areas of Calangute, Mapusa and Merces and this is happening only because of political patronage,” alleged Parab.

“This has to stop and the government should enact a law to ban slaughtering of cattle. The meat complex must shut down,” demanded Parab.
