Man Arrested in Nerul on Charges of Attempted Murder

Altercation Over Unpaid Money Leads to Knife Attack

In a recent incident, Porvorim Police arrested a Nerul resident on charges of attempted murder. The arrest came after Shakuntala Patra of Tintawado–Nerul filed a complaint with the Porvorim Police Station. The complaint alleged that on October 1 at approximately 6:45 pm, the accused, identified as Dipak Kumar Padhi, verbally abused and assaulted Anil Mahadev Gawas (31) with a knife near the Nerul church, in an attempt to commit murder.

As a result of the attack, Anil Mahadev Gawas, a resident of Usap–Dodamarg, was admitted to Goa Medical College in Bambolim for medical treatment.

Investigations into the incident have revealed that the altercation stemmed from a financial dispute between the accused, Dipak Kumar Padhi, who hails from West Bengal and currently resides in Nerul, and the victim, Anil Mahadev Gawas.

Porvorim Police subsequently registered an offence against Dipak Kumar Padhi under Sections 504 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code. The accused was arrested on October 1 in Nerul and was presented before the Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class on Monday, where he was remanded into seven days of custody.
