A farmer-turned-realtor has paid Rs 10 lakh to the Union territory’s registration and licensing authority for acquiring a vehicle registration number.
As the hammer went down at the auction here yesterday, N S Shergill paid the record price for the number CH01-AC-0001.
In his late 30s, Shergill, who owns farms in Kharar and Kurali and is also into the real estate business, said his teacher-wife had told him to drop the idea of spending a huge amount for acquiring a number, reasoning that it would buy them another car. However, he added “My heart said that I should have this number.”
