Ponda: The Forest Department officials on Thursday arrested Narayan Kharvat from Dodamarg who felled 7 Catechu trees on Wednesday night at Okami, Dharbandora. Catechu wood, commonly known as Khair, worth Rs 25,000 and two two-wheelers have also been seized.
As per the sources, the forest department were informed on Wednesday evening about the potential smuggling of the Khair wood. Forest Officer Dipak Tandel and team under the guidance of North Goa Deputy Forester Jiss Varkey raided the area when one of the suspects escaped while Kharvat was nabbed.
