PANJIM: Old Goa Police arrested one Nanu Atchalal Bharadwaj (27), resident of Calapur, for raping an eight-year-old minor girl.
Police said that an FIR has been registered against Bharadwaj following a complaint from the child’s mother. Bhardwaj has been booked under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Goa Children’s Act and POSCO Act.
“We have registered an offence against the accused and he is placed under arrest. Further investigation is in progress,” Old Goa PI Ashish Shirodkar said.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Saturday.
As per the complaint, the mother noticed her daughter in trauma and fear, lying in the bushes. After the incident, locals who gathered at the site traced the accused, who was also hiding in the nearby bushes.
