PANJIM: Crime Branch sleuths on Wednesday arrested a local for possessing snake venom worth Rs one crore in the international market. The accused has been identified as Mohammed Salim, who was earlier arrested in a raid at Pune in February this year. He was bailed out subsequently.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials laid a trap and nabbed him from Valpoi bus stand where he was waiting for his prospective customer.
The raiding team recovered bottles containing 1,000 ml liquid, which is said to be pure high-grade cobra venom.
Sources said the samples will be sent to a forensic science laboratory to get official confirmation that the liquid is snake venom. The forest department will also be handed over the seized liquid for a separate inquiry
The 30-year-old and his partner Suresh Kshirsagar from Kolhapur were earlier arrested with 1,000 ml venom worth Rs two crore in Pune in February.
The liquid was smuggled from Goa.
