MARGAO: In a cold blooded murder, a body of an unknown male person was founded dumped in the river Sal at Sokobandh-Ambelim with a boulder tied to his abdomen.
The Cuncolim has registered a case of murder against unknown persons and investigations are on.
The incident came to light on Sunday evening when the body with hands and legs tied with a nylon rope was found in the river. Margao Sub-divisional Police officer, DySP Mohan Naik said a boulder was also found tied to the abdomen of the deceased, whose body was found in a decomposed state.
The deceased who is suspected to be a labour working on a fishing vessel at the Cutbona jetty was found wearing a blue pant and T-shirt. Police said that Sukhobandh-Ambelim is around a kilometre away from the Cutbona fishing jetty.
Cuncolim police said there is no missing report filed at the police station in recent days and that they are trying to identify the deceased, who is believed to be in age group of 40-45 years. Sources said the face of the deceased was completely disfigured and may hamper investigations to identify the body. The body has been shifted for postmortem at Hospicio Hospital, Margao morgue.
