VALPOI: A man murdered one of his daughters and attempted to murder another after he found them talking to a local youth on Wednesday. He later surrendered at the Valpoi police station along with the knife he had used to commit the crime.
According to police, the accused Shankar Reddy (52) saw his daughters Sujata Reddy (20) and Gauri Reddy (17) talking to a local youth in Honda at around 12.30 pm. He scolded both of them and later attacked them with a sharp knife.
Sujata sustained serious head injuries and died on the spot, while Gauri was also seriously injured; she was taken to Goa Medical College, Bambolim, for treatment.
Shankar and his daughters were residing in Honda for the last six months after shifting from Mapusa. Shankar is a painter by profession, Gauri is studying in Std IX, and Sujata had completed her Std XII and had a private job in the locality.
Valpoi police arrested Shankar after he surrendered with the knife. Valpoi PI Deepak Pednekar conducted the panchanama, while Bicholim DySP Ramesh Gaonkar also visited the site. Further investigation is underway.
