VASCO: Immigration officials arrested a resident of Khareband-Margao on charges of assaulting a girl some four years ago.
Verna Police said, the accused, Prashant Naik, was friendly with a girl and had lent her some money. As Naik had received a visa which was to expire, Naik demanded the money back from the girl.
The police said as the girl failed to return the money, Naik allegedly took her to Cansaulim on September 2, 2010, and assaulted her with an iron rod and stone. The girl had lodged a complaint in this regard against Naik at Verna Police station.
Naik was absconding and was working in Dubai. During an immigration check on Tuesday, immigration officials detained Naik and handed him over to Verna Police.
Later, Verna Police arrested Naik under Section 307 and took him into police custody for seven days. PI Karpe is investigating the case.
