Man sacrifices life to save grandson

A 75-year-old man from Karwar sacrificed his life to save his grandson in a mishap at a religious event in Mardol on Tuesday night.
According to Ponda Police, Pundalik Vengurlekar got crushed under the wheels of the Rath, in a bid to save his grandson.
While the procession was underway, Pundalik’s grandson suddenly jumped in front of the Rath. In a bid to save his grandson from getting hurt, Pundalik also jumped under the Rath, police said.
Though the grandson was lucky to escape unhurt, Pundalik sustained grievous injuries in the mishap. He was rushed to the GMC, Bambolim, where he breathed his last on Wednesday morning.
