MAPUSA: A native of Sawantwadi Anwar Rajguru was arrested and later released after he set fire to his Royal Enfield bike in front of Mapusa Court on Thursday late evening. There was some issue in 2009 when he purchased the bike between the RTO and agent and hence he was taken to court. He had to fight this case for nine years during which he had to spend a lot of money. He had earlier bought the bike for Rs.90,000.
He won the case two months ago and finally on Thursday his bike was released from the showroom.  He vented his frustration by burning his bike in front of the court for all the trouble faced and to celebrate his victory over the RTO. There was also a video recording of the said incident that was circulating on social media .After the incident was reported to the Mapusa Fire Station at 7.53 pm on Thursday evening they rushed to the spot and put off the fire. An official from the Fire department told Herald that the loss is pegged at Rs. 30,000 and the owner was also unknown as the number plate of the bike was totally burnt.
The Investigating Officer (IO) from Mapusa Police Staion, Shetgaonkar informed that the ownership was not known until Friday evening. “In order to trace who was involved in this incident we were trying to check if we could get hold of CCTV footage from the private shops around the area where the incident occurred. We also made a letter to the RTO with the chassis number of the bike that was set on fire to trace the owner. On Friday it came to light that it was the owner only who burnt his bike,” told Shetgaonkar.
A local who was a witness to this incident told how this individual wearing a helmet came on a non-geared bike in the presence of so many people and fearlessly set the bullet bike on fire. He not only watched the bike burn but also enjoyed a cigarette watching it burn and later fled from the spot.  The Mapusa Police registered a case registered against the owner under section 336 for endangering human life.
