MARGAO: In a shocking incident reported at Sao Jose de Areal on Thursday evening, a man stabbed his wife to death with a knife.
According to Maina-Curtorim Police, the accused 30-year-old one Gulshan stabbed his 20-year-old wife Basanti Tirke in a rented room at Sao Jose de Areal and fled.
Basanti, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to South Goa District Hospital. However, she succumbed.
Maina-Curtorim Police team rushed to the spot and conducted the panchanama.
The police said they are on the lookout for the accused and a policeman has been posted at his residence.
It is learnt that both Jharkhand migrants were staying in the area for the past three years. Gulshan, a person with disability, was working as a supervisor at a crusher at Sao Jose de Areal.
Police said efforts are on to arrest Gulshan and they are yet to recover the murder weapon.
Police later met some of the locals from the area to gather information.
Police said Gulshan suspected that Basanti had extra-marital affair with some person. On Thursday, when Gulshan returned to their rented room, he entered into an argument with Basanti and later stabbed her with a knife and fled.
Police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC and further investigation is on.
