MARGAO: Margoa market is filled with the much awaited mangoes. The drastic fall in price made mangoes, especially Mancurad mangoes get overwhelming response from commoners.
The price of Mancurad mango has dropped to Rs. 250 from Rs. 1200. A class Mancurad is also at the affordable price of Rs 500 at Margao. However, many mango dealers have complained about the size of the Mancurad affected due to the unseasonal rains. The drastic fall of price has given a common man access to the Mancurad which has flooded the markets in Margao and all over the state for the last few days.
It is pertinent to note that the Margao market at Pimpal Katta is considered as one of the main markets of mangoes, majorly for Mancurad. One can notice nearly 500 to 700 big traditional baskets of Mancurad mangoes at the venue in the early morning every day. Even supply of other varieties is in plenty.
Speaking to media Uday Naik, a wholesaler said that the price of the Mancurad has reduced drastically, but the huge quantity of the King of Mangoes will last for the next 10 to 15 days only.
“The unseasonal rains in the month of April have badly affected the production of Mancurad in Goa, resulting in the first season into total loss. However, a huge quantity of Mancurad has arrived in the market which will help the wholesalers to compensate the losses incurred in the last month,” Naik said.
Narendra Naik, another wholesaler said at the moment the Mancurad is at an affordable price and the rate varies from Rs. 150 to Rs. 700 per dozen. A class Mancurad is available in the market at a price of Rs. 300 to Rs. 700 per dozen.
“This rate of Mancurad will last for the next 10 days, and hence a common man can have easy access to the King of Mangoes,” he stated.
