MARGAO: Mandals of Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav stated that they will cooperate with the government norms in view of COVID-19 pandemic, as District Administration held a meeting with the mandals to discuss smooth conduct of the festival on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Collector South Jyoti Kumari, along with Joao Fernandes, wherein nearly 20 representatives of the Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav mandals attended the same.
Speaking to the media Deputy Collector Jyoti Kumar said that a meeting was conducted in order to discuss the smooth conduct of the festival in wake of COVID-19 norms.
“Representatives have expressed their views and suggestion, which will be forward to the government. The decision will be informed to the mandals, once the authority receives it from the government,” she said.
She further said that the inputs with regard to single-window clearance for permission will also be taken into consideration by the authorities.
Ramesh Raut Dessai, Secretary of Cuncolim-Balli Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal said that they have decided to bring down the celebration to one and half days. “We have informed the authorities to have the celebration only for one and half-day, instead of five or seven days. We have also decided not to hold and cultural programme in the pandal in wake of COVID-19,” he said.
He further said no one should take any chances with regard to the SOP of COVID, and all cooperation will be given to the authorities.
