Mando Mogi does Goa proud, wins national level folk dance competition

To represent State at the Olympiad in Abu Dhabi; contest was hosted by the Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrutik Sangh, Pune at 20th Cultural Forum of Performing Arts

MARGAO: It was a proud moment for Goa, as Mando Mogi, a cultural group, won the national level folk dance competition hosted by the Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrutik Sangh, Pune (official partner of UNESCO) at 20th Cultural Forum of Performing Arts. 

The group’s victory showcases the rich cultural heritage of Goa and highlights the exceptional talent and dedication of the members of Mando Mogi.

This achievement serves as a testament to the vibrant traditions and artistic prowess prevalent in the State. 

As ambassador of Goan culture, Mando Mogi’s success resonates far beyond the competition, bringing honour and recognition to the state and inspiring future generations to celebrate and preserve the cultural identity through performing arts.

Now, the group has got the opportunity to represent Goa at the Olympiad in Abu Dhabi which is considered as a remarkable milestone for Mando Mogi, to further solidify its status as cultural ambassador on the international stage. 

The members of Mando Mogi previously showcased their talent and cultural heritage in Canada, Tunisia, Dubai, Bali, and East Timor. Mando Mogi will also perform in Abu Dhabi.

Under the leadership of Pervis Gomes, the members of the Mando Mogi cultural group include Namita D’Silva, Dr Mariah Gomes, Sweta Prabhugaonkar, Suchita Velip, Dr Lenin Vaz, Lincoln Vaz, Antush Pires and Adv Reagan Pinto.

In an interview with O Heraldo, Namita D’Silva shared insights into Mando Mogi’s remarkable journey, revealing that the cultural group was founded in 1997.

She reminisced about her extensive involvement with Mando Mogi since its inception in 1997, marking a beautiful 27-year journey filled with cultural richness and artistic achievements.

“The group’s leader, Pervis Gomes, as a multi-talented individual, who excels as a writer, composer, dancer, and singer, but above all, as a remarkable leader who consistently motivates the members to showcase their best,” she said. 

She said that from time to time they have had members from different walks of life be it doctors, advocates, engineers, entrepreneurs and teachers, but what brought them all together was their sheer love for music and dance.

Reacting to the remarkable achievement of Mando Mogi at the National level, Damodar Naik, former Fatorda MLA, congratulated the group.  

“It is a proud moment for Goa as the State is known for its heritage and cultural richness,” stated Naik, reflecting on the significance of Mando Mogi’s achievement at the National level folk dance competition.

Several other political leaders and cultural groups too have extended their wishes to the group representing Goa.
