Mandre College writes to Chief Minister for grants

Threatens to move High Court with contempt petition against its order of April 2017 restoring the college affiliation

PANJIM: As a final resort, Vikas Parishad Mandre Chairman Ramakant Khalap has written to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to reapprove grants in aid to Mandre College of Commerce and Economics that has been conducting BCom course of Goa University since 2012-13.
Khalap has threatened to move High Court with a contempt petition if CM fails to look into the matter and decide within one week. He has also said that government’s failure will force him to take up the matter before public during the upcoming by-elections in Mandrem constituency.
In a letter to Parrikar, who is also Minister for Education, Khalap has requested to reexamine and reapprove grants in aid to the Mandre College with immediate effect and undo the injustice done to the students.
Khalap said that Mandre College was set up in June 2012 and was approved on grant-in-aid basis by Parrikar and later in July 2013 the approval for grant was withdrawn on the ground that Government College at Virnoda is less than 7kms away from the said college.
Goa University had also withdrawn the affiliation of the College, forcing Khalap to move High Court, who through an order dated April 4, 2017, quashed and set aside the govt decision.
