Mandrekar opens new reservoir at Opa

PONDA: Water Resource Minister Dayanand Mandrekar inaugurated a new reservoir at Opa Water treatment plant, on Friday. 
This is the 19th reservoir built on Opa River. Its storage capacity is 5,00,000 cubic meters and is constructed at a cost of around Rs 30.43 crore. 
On the occasion, Mandrekar said that with the construction of the new reservoir, the water crisis faced by Ponda and Tiswadi talukas in April and May will be solved. He claimed that during his tenure as water resource minister, he constructed seven reservoirs and is making efforts to build more. 
Panjim MLA Siddarth Cuncoliekar said that construction of a 27 MLD treatment plant on Opa is underway and once it is completed, Panjim would not face water crisis.
Meanwhile, around 200 PWD contract workers staged a protest at Opa just before Mandrekar inaugurated the reservoir, demanding regularization of their services. 
Later, the workers submitted a memorandum to Mandrekar reminding the government of its promise to regularize their services. The workers requested the minister to present the same at the cabinet meeting.
