The Water Resources Minister, through his lawyer has sent a letter to Herald, claiming that these facts are completely false and has sought information from Herald to initiate criminal and civil proceedings against the newspaper. Speaking for the people of Goa, Herald tells the minister, on behalf of the widow Priya Mitbowker, that it will stand by her and fight for her justice.
It calls upon the minister to respond to the police action initiated by her since it takes a lot of courage for a woman who alleges torture and torment on her family by minister Mandrekar to file a police complaint
As far as Herald is concerned, it rejects the minister’s claim that we are wrong on facts, since it is indeed a fact that Priya Mitbowker has spoken out clearly to make very serious allegations against Dayanand Mandrekar which need to be probed and not dismissed. By now a common man would have been questioned and/or even arrested on charges of abetment to suicide with the deceased’s wife making an open charge. If the charges are false, the minister has nothing to worry, he will come out clean. He should therefore use the opportunity to respond to Ms Mitbowker legally instead of attacking Herald which is doing its job of bringing to its readers facts surrounding the pain of a widow who has lost both her father-in-law and her husband.
A befitting legal reply to his lawyer’s letter will be given to him which we will share with readers of Herald.
