PERNEM: Strong lightning on Thursday evening blacked out the entire Mandrem constituency for almost 21 hours.
The power went off at 9 pm on Thursday and it was restored at 6 pm on Friday. The affected villages are Tuem, Parsem, Agarwada-Chopdem, Mandrem, Morjim and Arambol.
Meanwhile, several other parts of Pernem also witnessed power fluctuation on Friday. Besides, parts of the taluka were also without power for over six hours.
According to the Junior Engineer Manoj Kotharji heavy lightning snapped the power lines between Tivim and Tuem from where power is supplied to the villages in Mandrem constituency.
The lines between Tivim and Tuem pass through jungle area, as such, locating the faults through thick vegetation delayed restoration of power. Also, the heavy lightning punctured the insulator.
