Mandrem locals agitated as resort discharges sewage water close to temple premises

PERNEM: Locals of Mandrem have alleged that a newly built resort has been discharging its waste water on Ashvem beach, close to the Ajoba Mandir premises. The resort owner however claimed that the water was used for gardening and is not filth. He assured not to discharge the water onto the beach again.

“Is the government for locals or for the Delhites? Last time, resorts and hotels of locals which were running without NOC from Goa State Pollution Control Board were sealed. Why are the same laws not applied to the constructions owned by Delhi-walas? The restaurants on the beaches which are discharging their waste water need to be identified,” local Sandesh Sawant said. He also drew attention to the violations of CRZ rules by some resorts which have encroached upon the beaches.

Meanwhile, another resort which was next to the aforementioned resort had discharged waste water onto the beach around two years ago. The then sarpanch Adv Amit Sawant and the fellow panchayat members had given a stern warning to the owner. The resort was eventually sealed for not having Goa Pollution Control Board’s NOC.
