Mandrem MLA questions delay in Electronics & Manufacturing Cluster at Tuem

PORVORIM: The issue of delay in commencing the Electronics and Manufacturing Cluster at Tuem, Pernem, was raised by Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar. The Electronic Manufacturing Cluster, which had its foundation stone laid in November 2016, is yet to see the required infrastructure being provided.

In his starred question, Arolkar sought details about the pending work and an estimated timeline for completion. Additionally, he inquired whether the government had proposed connecting the Cluster to the National Highway.

Responding to the concerns, Information Technology (IT) Minister Rohan Khaunte assured that the project would be ready for operation by March 2024. He revealed that works related to water supply, electricity, and garbage building were underway.

However, the main reason for the delay in starting the facility was the construction of the main 2.6-km-long approach road connecting to the NH. The Minister disclosed that Rs 22 crore had already been deposited with the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) for land acquisition. The department is currently waiting on the Collector to complete the land acquisition proceedings.

Khaunte pointed out that land acquisition had encountered delays due to objections raised by one of the landowners.

He expressed hope that the government would be able to acquire the land and construct the link road once the proposed The Goa Highways Law (Revival of operation, Amendment, and Validation) Bill, which has already received approval from the State Cabinet, passes.
