KORGAO: Launching an action against illegal scrapyards, Mandrem panchayat led by sarpanch Amit Sawant demolished four such establishments on Friday.
The sarpanch had earlier visited the disputed site along along with the panchayat secretary Amit Prabhu and Pernem police and issue notices to the owners of these scrapyards and given them a 10-day deadline to stop their operations and remove the sheds as well.

All four scrapyards had seized the operations but the sheds were still standing which were demolished during the inspection yesterday.
“The panchayat will shut down illegal businesses. The ones staying without any valid identity documents must inform the panchayat about their business, whereabouts and their residential information failing which they will have to face legal action,” said Sawant.
