PERNEM: Villages in Mandrem faced a 12-hour long power outage on Tuesday, as the underground power cable was snapped.
Ashvem-Mandrem, Morjim, Agarwada, Chopdem and Tuem faced a 12-hour power cut after an underground electricity cable from Thivim power station to Junaswada was damaged.
The power supply was interrupted around 3 pm and was restored only after 3 am the next day. The electricity department officials said that the cause behind the power shortage was due to damage to the underground cable.
The work of laying underground power cables in Mandrem constituency is almost 90 per cent complete and locals have expressed fear whether in future they will have to wait for eight-nine hours for the electricity to get restored.
