Mandrem road turns into ‘river’; people, vehicles stranded

ARAMBOL: The incessant rain brought pain to Mandrem villagers for the last two days as their roads at many places were submerged.

Locals and tourists were stranded on the inundated roads here and had a hard time wading through waist deep water as their vehicles were damaged. In many place people were helping each other in pushing their vehicles after their engines were stalled. Bus, cars, rickshaws and two-wheels all met with the same fate on the inundated roads.

The area near the Mandrem panchayat near Junaswada-Mharachi Kond bridge suffered the major brunt of flooding.

Agitated motorists then had to travel via the Marathwada route.

“Since the gutters are narrow it is impossible for the rainwater to drain. It has become a common scene especially near Govekar’s home,” said an annoyed motorist Shridhar Naik.

“People from both sides of the Junas bridge are affected and PWD engineers including the officials are responsible for the situation,” added Naik.
