Mandrem roads are a nightmare for motorists and two-wheeler riders

PERNEM: The roads in Mandrem constituency, dug up for underground power cables installation since August 2023, remain unfinished, causing distress for motorists and two-wheeler riders alike. Particularly troublesome is the stretch from Tuem ITI to Tuem Hospital, which offers a jarring and uncomfortable journey, especially for patients en route to the hospital.

Amidst these woes, a 30 MLD water treatment plant is under construction in the Tuem ITI area for the Mandrem constituency. The pipeline installation work began in 2023 with assurances from the contractor, made in the presence of MLA Jeet Arolkar, to dig only 100 meters at a time, hotmixing the stretch upon completion before moving on to the next segment. However, the contractor has failed to honor this commitment, leaving locals deeply frustrated.

Approximately 15 days ago, discontent reached a tipping point, prompting Tuem Sarpanch Sulaksha Naik, along with other Panchayat members and locals, to halt further digging by the contractor. While this action spurred the contractor to begin repairs in some areas, progress has since stalled.

Adding to the chaos, the Public Works Department (PWD) has now commenced trenching on the opposite side of the road for laying power cables. This ongoing disruption has left motorists, pedestrians, and residents profoundly dissatisfied, grappling with daily inconveniences and uncertainties.
