PERNEM: Upset over acute water scarcity in village, angry women from Morjim have now threatened to march to the PWD Water Supply office and even stage an agitation outside the Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar’s residence if the issue is not solved.
While in some parts of the village people are desperate to get water as the taps have run dry, there is sheer wastage of water at the public taps especially at Varcha Wadda as the taps are either broken or loose. Locals have questioned the irregularity and inconsistency of the supply in the same panchayat area.
“We have not pleaded for government jobs but are just asking for water which is our basic right. While are taps are running dry, water bills are delivered without fail,” said a woman from Urmalbaag.
The MLA however, has already directed the officials to regulate the water supply and has also deployed tankers to provide water in all the wards. It is learnt that it is difficult for the water tankers to move in as the areas are inaccessible.
Locals have also complained that the rise in the number of tourists is putting extra pressure on the resources which is affecting the locals. As per the sources, 2 MLD water from Water Treatment Plant at Chandel is provided to AYUSH Hospital at Dhargal, which is why the water flow in Mandrem Constituency is low.
