Mangor Hill declared containment zone

The State government on Monday declared Mangor Hill as a containment zone after two persons tested positive for COVID-19. The authorities are carrying out contact tracing.

“Two more confirmed cases have been reported bringing the tally of active cases to 29 in the State. In the present case, we are carrying out a very concentrated contact tracing and testing. All efforts are being made to see what are the links and possible contacts,” Health Secretary Nila Mohanan said on Monday evening.

Since the locale is a “tighly packed area,” the government immediately declared it a containment zone. “Extensive testing of the people from Mangor Hill is underway. We are making entire containment zone into particular parameters. Our primary focus will be immediate neighbours and slowly spread to other places in the zone. Our target is to test the people as quickly as possible,” she said.

Asked if this was the beginning of community transmission, the Health Secretary denied it stating, “It is too pre-mature to comment on this because contact tracing is still ongoing.” She appealed to the people not to panic or be anxious about the recent development.

“If you have fever which is subsiding then contact nearby health centre,” she advised, while adding that the results of the swab tests are being intimated to the persons through SMS.
