VASCO: The entire Mangor Hill area near Ambabai temple on Monday evening was sealed and cordoned off following reports of two COVID-19 positive cases in the locality.
Administrative officials such as mamlatdar, deputy collector, police inspectors, DySP and others rushed to the site to take stock of the situation after a doctor and labourer tested positive for COVID-19.
On Monday evening, reports of the COVID-19 cases in Mangor Hill went viral followed by several theories and speculations as the local police rushed to area and commenced the containment process and cordoning off the entire area.
DySP Raju Raut Dessai, Vasco PI Paresh Naik and PSI Diago Gracias advised the people to return to their houses, asked shopkeepers to down shutters shops, and regulated the movement of traffic by placing barricades at various points.
Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar, who was present at the site, said, “Mangor Hill’s Ward No 17 has been declared as containment zone”. Deputy Collector of Mormugao Paresh Faldessai said, “Those Mangor Hill residents, who had gone out on duty will have to undergo medical test and will be later home quarantined for some days.”
Mangor Hill’s internal roads have been blocked. The residents will have to undergo tests at the Chicalim Hospital”, he added.
On arrangements made by the police at Mangor Hill, PI Paresh Naik said, “The traffic movement in Mangor Hill, which has been declared as containment zone, has been blocked by placing barricades near St Teresa High School, near Ambabai temple, at Varunapuri to ensure no movement until further orders.”
