VASCO: Some residents of Mangor Hill have complained of lawlessness and nuisance caused by miscreants in some parts of the area which has forced the locals to spend sleepless nights.

The residents complained of frequent clashes between miscreants, eve teasing, haphazard parking on the road, fuel theft, etc.

The State’s first containment zone appears to have turned into a “lawless zone”. Shopkeepers are now facing multiple issues and in one instance they even had to seek police help by contacting a Vasco PCR.

A small group of small businessmen plans to petition the District Collector in this regard.

Speaking to Herald, Peter Andrade from Mangor Hill complained that some groups of miscreants are creating terror in the area and “gang wars” have become a norm. In one such horrifying incident, stray dogs have been killed, while the other strays were rescued by some concerned residents after they were found doused with petrol stolen from parked two-wheelers.

Further, he mentioned that most two-wheelers have no number plates and locals believe the same to be the stolen ones. The entire stretch from the main road to Navy gate is blocked with two-wheelers parked on both sides of the road, making the passage of a small car difficult.

Groups of teenagers are involved in passing lewd comments on females, provoking rivals, not maintaining any social distancing, not using face masks and blocking the shops. Fights are common with residents hardly knowing the actual reason for the commotion, he added.

A small piece of land existed outside the famous Ambabai Temple and this area was beautified with interlocking pavers. It was believed that this area would be used for parking of devotees’ vehicles and would be free from garbage. But the entire area has been usurped by private vehicles owned by the lane residents.

When the area was a containment zone, ambulances refused to enter the zone due to haphazard parking. In case of any emergency, it would be difficult for any fire tender to enter the lane.
